These are some of the problems that you might see over the summer specifically while the warmer weather is with us.
Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)
This is inflammation of the conjunctival membranes — the thin, transparent tissue that covers the white part of the eye and the inside of the eyelids. It typically causes redness, itching, and usually a sticky yellow or green discharge. The trigger is often dirt and dust that gets into the eyes during the hot dry weather.
We recommend: Using our All Natural Colloidal Silver Eyedrops for Pets twice daily.
Seasonal Allergies
Your dog may have a contact type allergy, sometimes due to grass, where the areas of the body that come into direct contact with the grass — such as the tummy region or paws — become red and inflamed.
The other type of allergy is due to allergens which are inhaled, commonly pollen during the summer. The areas of the body usually affected include the ears, tummy, armpits, the face, paws and around the eyes. The skin appears red and sore with general itching, scratching and rubbing affecting one single area of the body or any combination of areas.
We recommend:
- Using our Colloidal Silver Petcare Multi-Purpose Gel or our All Natural Colloidal Silver Petcare Cream With Moisturising Coconut Oil to settle down any irritated areas of skin. Where itching is a big feature, consider adding in our Itch Buster Spray for Dogs.
- Where the ears are affected, use our Colloidal Silver Petcare Ear Drops For Dogs With Essential Oils twice daily to calm things down.
Hot Spots
These are areas of acutely inflamed skin which feel burning hot and look angry, red and sticky.
We recommend: Washing and cleaning by using our Colloidal Silver Petcare 10ppm Spray three times daily to remove the sticky ooze from the surface, or gently bathe away any dried crusts from the surface. Dry after cleaning, then apply Colloidal Silver Petcare Multi-Purpose Gel ensuring it is rubbed in well.
Fleas and Ticks
A very seasonal problem.
Ticks can transmit disease and attach themselves to the hair of your dog when they brush through long grass. Remove ticks as soon as you see them using a tick twister and ensure that any tick and flea prevention treatment is up to date.
Fleas cause more obvious symptoms — itching, rubbing, redness, crusts and scratching with hair loss over the back from the pelvic region forwards especially.
We recommend: Applying our Tick and Flea Management Solution as a deterrent twice daily as needed, and using our All Natural Colloidal Silver Petcare Cream With Moisturising Coconut Oil to help settle down any sore areas of skin.
Sunburn
This normally affects long-nosed dogs that have thin hair over their face, such as Collies. The skin becomes red and develops blisters which may weep.
We recommend: Applying our Colloidal Silver Petcare Multi-Purpose Gel 2 or 3 times daily until the skin heals. Remember to use a suitable dog-specific sunblock during sunny weather.
Snake Bites
Adder bites — Seek immediate veterinary help.
